Precision Racing L.A. announces an exciting addition to this year’s line up as celebrity host Rutledge Wood trades his microphone for the track, joining the team for a partial season in the 2025 SRO GR Cup series.
Rutledge Wood’s lifelong passion for motorsports began early, learning the car business from his father. After graduating from the University of Georgia with a marketing degree, he pursued his career in television. For a decade, he brought NASCAR action to life on Speed Channel and FOX, before shifting gears to NBC Sports, where he covered everything from high-speed racing to the thrills of the Summer and Winter Olympics. From there, Wood co-hosted the BBC & History Channel’s production of Top Gear US, along with several Netflix shows including Hyperdrive, Floor is Lava and The American Barbeque Showdown. Most recently, he hosted the NBC Primetime competition series, Hot Wheels: Ultimate Challenge.
Woods is also a longtime Team Toyota ambassador. He just entered his twelfth year leading several SEMA builds with the brand including the “SupraBird” and TRD Pro “FUNdra.”
“I couldn’t be more excited to jump into the driver’s seat and join the Toyota GR Cup Series for four race weekends in 2025," said Rutledge Wood. "Cars have always been a huge part of my life, and having the opportunity to have some fun in the incredible Toyota GR86 is a dream come true. I need to give a huge thank you to Mario Biundo, (President and Team principal, Precision Racing L.A.), and his team for helping start the idea around this program, and everyone at Toyota for making it happen. I had the privilege of racing in the Toyota Pro Celebrity event years ago and can’t wait to get behind the wheel in this incredible series as well.”
Joining Wood are teammates Karl Forman (#03) and Mike LaMarra (#73), both of whom showed significant improvement over the course of the season opener at Sonoma despite the challenging and unpredictable weather conditions.
Mario Biundo, Team Principal of Precision Racing L.A. said, “Rutledge’s name has always been in conversation between Ryan and I when we talk about high quality humans in the automotive space. I thought having him on the team would be a billboard to others that if Rutledge can race, so can you. I pitched the idea to Mike Pricer at TRD and he agreed to make this opportunity of a lifetime come true. To all of those wondering if they can race, if Rut can race, so can you. We welcome Rutledge to our racing family with open arms.”
Woods will compete in GR Cup Series weekends at Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas, in April; Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, in August; Barber Motorsports Park in Leeds, Alabama, in September; and the road course at the iconic Indianapolis Motor Speedway in October. Wood is scheduled to compete in two races each weekend as part of Precision Racing L.A.’s multi-car effort. The team has participated in the Toyota GR Cup series since its infancy.
